On April 1, 2019 at the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University) (BSMU international partner) the All-Russian Student Olympiad in practical medical training “Golden Medskill” was held. This is the seventh Olympiad, which is held as part of the “Medical Education Week”.
This year, 55 teams of 4-6 year students of medical universities from all over Russia and the near abroad gathered at the Institute of Electronic Medical Education of Sechenov University.
Since 2013, the All-Russian Student Olympiad “Golden Medskill” has been held within the framework of Russia's participation in the international non-profit association WorldSkills International (WSI), the aim of which is to increase the status of occupational education and standards of occupational training and qualification worldwide.
For 5 hours, teams moved from one station to another, where they performed various tasks in situations as close as possible to reality. The scale of the Olympiad is amazing - 5 teams were competing at the same time, which means that 20 stations worked in parallel.
At the stations, participants demonstrated the following skills:
Particular attention is paid to the formation of communication skills. Considering the difficulties in the formation of this competence, professional actors constantly work in the clinic “MentorMedicus”, they can reflect the behavior of patients with different personality types and the participants are faced with the psychological task of finding an effective communication format (“CommunicationSkill”).
One of the stages included testing for work in emergency situations. The participants of five teams united into one for emergency care following a road accident. Teamwork was evaluated in a competition with clinical tasks, case studies were suggested for diagnosis: combinations of ECG, various laboratory, radiological, morphological studies and visualization techniques - ultrasound, CT, and microslides of the surgical material.
For the first time, a creative contest Feedback was held where students gave feedback about the Olympiad in a comic book, poster, or demotivator format. In addition, the jury evaluated the team style and video presentations of participants.
After passing the stations master classes by leading teachers of Sechenov University were organized for the participants.
The team thanks the administration of the Belarusian State Medical University. For the help provided the team also thanks the Department of anesthesiology and reanimatology, the Department of obstetrics and gynecology and Center for practical training.
Although the results of the Olympiad have not yet been summed up, the results of the team rating are expected next week, the team gained invaluable experience in working with advanced training technologies, improved their skills in emergency situations and received a lot of positive emotions.
