FDI World Dental Federation was established in Paris in 1900 as the Fédération Dentaire Internationale by Dr. Charles Godon from the Paris School of Dentists (Ecole Dentaire de Paris). FDI is the world's leading organization representing the dental profession. It serves as the principal representative body for over one million dentists worldwide, developing health policy and continuing education programmes. FDI’s membership includes over 200 national member associations and specialist groups in some 130 countries.
Every year FDI World Dental Federation organizes 'FDI WORLD DENTAL CONGRESS AND EXHIBITION' in different countries of the world. This year, the Congress was held in San Francisco (USA) on September, 1-8.
FDI is governed by a General Assembly, with policy enacted by its Council and activities implemented through five standing committees comprising 60 volunteers from among its national member associations. The Belarusian Dental Association (BDA) currently headed by professor I.V.Tokarevich, has been a member of the FDI for many years and is an active participant in all FDI’s activities.
