XXIX National Congress on Respiratory Diseases

On October 29 - November 1, 2019 the XXIX National Congress on Respiratory Diseases with international participation was held in Moscow. The event was attended by leading scientists from different countries of Europe, Asia, America and, of course, the Russian Federation.

It is known that respiratory diseases continue to remain socially significant diseases that affect the demographic security of states. Every year, leading world scientists present at the congress the results of innovative research on the fight against respiratory diseases on the way to a patient-oriented and economically sound model of medical care.

The scientific program included numerous schools of the Russian Respiratory Society for doctors, sections, symposiums, round tables, lectures, clinical discussions and a competition for young scientists. The meetings were held simultaneously at 5-10 venues. Schools of the Russian Respiratory Society for Doctors covered a range of issues from modern technologies for imaging respiratory diseases (including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography and digital tomosynthesis), functional diagnosis of diseases, working capacity examination, problems of diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension, a new management paradigms for patients with COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, treatment of severe asthma, community-acquired pneumonia before treatment arranging of cystic fibrosis in an outpatient setting, immunoprophylaxis of lung diseases in children, cryogenic methods in the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases (intraluminal and transbronchial cryobiopsy, as well as cryotherapy), etc.

The listeners were greatly interested in the sections devoted to the changes that occurred in one year in a certain area, as well as the symposiums at which doctors of various specialties (pulmonologists, radiologists and pathomorphologists) discussed the diagnosis of diseases.

The following symposia were held within the framework of the congress:

  • Symposium "Severe bronchial asthma: diagnosis and management of the patient";
  • Symposium "A new era in the treatment of bronchial asthma: opportunities for the doctor and patient";
  • Symposium “Accumulated experience and long-term prospects for the treatment of severe bronchial asthma using targeted biological drugs”;
  • Symposium “What the experts are talking about: practical issues of targeted therapy for severe asthma”;
  • Symposium "How innovations change approaches to the treatment of severe bronchial asthma."

The most discussed topic of the congress was new approaches to the treatment of severe bronchial asthma. In a short time, many new ideas appeared to improve the management of this difficult category of patients, the possibilities of pharmacotherapy have significantly been expanded due to the appearance of fundamentally new drugs on the market, but the algorithm for choosing the optimal therapy remains an urgent issue. The largest number of symposia was devoted to this topic, which covered the problem from all sides.

A very lively round table was held with international participation dedicated to the presentation of new clinical recommendations for the treatment of bronchial asthma and approaches to T2-mediated diseases.

Galina Borodina, Head of the Department of Phthisiopulmunology of BSMU presented the report on sarcoidosis in the Republic of Belarus in the section “Sarcoidosis: from clinical examples to fundamental generalizations”. The section was aimed at creating the idea of sarcoidosis among doctors as a multi-organ granulomatous disease with hardly predictable course. The meeting was attended by both clinicians and laboratory diagnostics specialists, immunologists, therefore, both the results of theoretical studies and purely clinical cases were presented for discussion.

Undoubtedly, the XXIX National Congress on Respiratory Diseases enriched all participants with new knowledge, experience, communication with colleagues, and the search for new scientific solutions to the complex problems of respiratory medicine.
