Academic science is an integral part of the professional and creative activities of every higher education teacher. Participation in such scientific events as conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia outside the Republic of Belarus, the presentation of research results and the exchange of experience with foreign colleagues is a powerful motivation for further research work and professional development of teachers of our university.
On February 20-21, 2020, in the city of Rzeszow (Republic of Poland), the International Conference “XII Międzynarodow Dni Rehabilitacji 2020: Potrzeby i standard wspolczesnej rehabilitacji” (“XII International Rehabilitation Days: Needs and Standards of Modern Rehabilitation”) was held. The organizers of this conference were the National Society of Rehabilitologists of Poland, Rzeszow University, the Committee for Rehabilitation, Physical Culture and Social Integration of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The conference was attended by researchers from Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Ukraine, Belarus. At the plenary and breakout sessions, 69 oral and 37 poster presentations were presented on the state of the problem and the prospects for the development of rehabilitation and prevention of socially significant diseases.
The speakers presented the results of scientific research conducted on the basis of scientific, practical and educational medical centers and institutions, shared their experience in organizing a comprehensive rehabilitation system, offered innovative ideas and original methods for improving the rehabilitation of patients with basic socially significant pathology.
The Department of Epidemiology of the Belarusian State Medical University was represented by the senior teacher of the Department of Epidemiology Margarita Shilova, Associate Professor of the Department Irina Valchuk with the report "Opioid substitution therapy as a direction of medical and social rehabilitation of HIV-infected injecting drug users in Minsk".
The presented scientific work presents data indicating the effectiveness of substitution therapy in HIV-infected injecting drug users in Minsk: the epidemiological parameters of the social adaptation of program participants, an increase in adherence to antiretroviral therapy, which reduces the degree of their epidemic risk at the population level.
The report aroused keen interest and lively discussion. Questions were asked on the materials of research and organization of assistance for this category of people in the Republic of Belarus.
Visiting such events enriches the professional and spiritual life of specialists and teachers of medical universities, helps expand the scientific horizons and intensify international communications.
