In early May 2020 the Belarusian State Medical University signed Cooperation Agreement with the International Working Group “Prevention” Neuss (Federal Republic of Germany).
The International Working Group “Prevention” (Internationaler Arbeitskreis Prävention) is the assignee of the International Forum of Hygiene, which is for many decades has been a reliable partner of the Belarusian State Medical University. The International Working Group “Prevention” unites leading professors, scientists, epidemiologists and hygienists from medical universities and healthcare institutions in various regions of Europe. The Working Group closely cooperates with the Federal Ministry of Health (Germany) and the Robert Koch Institute, which makes its scientific and practical work much more effective.
The International Working Group “Prevention”, like its predecessor, is engaged in the analysis and consolidation of information and international experience in the field of epidemiology and hygiene, as well as promotion of the most significant achievements of scientists, epidemiologists and hygienists and their introduction to the practical healthcare of European countries.
However, the new challenges associated with the spread of new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) significantly expanded scope and role of the International Working Group “Prevention”. German and EU population raise the most important question now “How to overcome the COVID-19 crisis?”.
Therefore, the activities of the International Working Group "Prevention" in the near future will focus on the development of effective strategy to stop the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, including recommendations for national health systems, healthcare institutions and population.
Over the years, bilateral cooperation has been focused on prevention of infectious diseases, including such areas as technologies for water disinfection, prevention of nosocomial infections, promotion of legislation in the field of hygiene in Germany, the European Union and CIS countries. Much attention is also paid to the issue of training hygienists and epidemiologists in the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The participation of German colleagues in scientific and practical conferences held at the Belarusian State Medical University has become traditional. For example, in May 2019 the delegation of the International Working Group “Prevention” took part in the scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine “Advances of Health Protection”.
German colleagues gave lectures and organized scientific and practical seminars for students and faculty of the Belarusian State Medical University on the topical issues of training hygienists and epidemiologists, disinfection techniques, nosocomial infections, drinking water quality control, legionellosis, hygienic control of mass catering establishments and food industry in Europe and Germany.
The Head of the International Working Group ”Prevention”, professor (h.c.) G.P. Rienow repeatedly emphasized the readiness of the Working Group to continue scientific and academic cooperation with the Belarusian State Medical University. Therefore, the conclusion of new Cooperation Agreement was rather expected result of long-term effective partnership.
The new Agreement defines key areas of cooperation for the next five years, including:
implementation of joint research projects in the field of hygiene, epidemiology and public health;
exchange of teachers and researchers for participation in scientific conferences, symposia and other scientific and educational events;
exchange of experience and information on sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, effective infection prevention and control in healthcare institutions with reference to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic;
exchange of experience and research results, publications and other academic, scientific, medical information and materials.
The Belarusian State Medical University and the International Working Group “Prevention” are ready to open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation!
