On August 4, 2020 the Rector of the University Anatol Sikorski and Vice-Rector for International Relations Vasili Roudenok met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Said Yari, at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Belarus.
In a friendly atmosphere, the parties had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues related to the training of citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The issues of academic and scientific cooperation were also discussed.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the university's key partners in the field of training specialists for practical health care. More than four hundred Iranian citizens study at the university both at the 1st stage of higher education and in clinical residency, master’s degree program, preparatory department.
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the organization of the educational process and preparation for the academic year 2020/2021 in the current difficult epidemiological situation. At the meeting, the university rector Anatol Sikorski emphasized that he understands the concern of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Belarus and Iranian citizens studying at the university over the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as part of the organization of the educational process in the 2020/2021 academic year, the university will carry out to take all necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures to ensure the safety and health of students.
During the conversation, the parties raised an important issue related to the recognition of the Belarusian State Medical University and its inclusion in the list of universities recommended by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran for studying abroad, establishing the equivalence of educational programs, and mutual recognition of educational documents. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Said Yari, in a conversation with the university rector Anatol Sikorski supported the work carried out in this direction.
The issues of academic and scientific cooperation were also discussed.
Currently the university cooperates within the framework of partnership agreements with the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the Iran University of Medical Sciences, the Universal Scientific, Educational and Research Network (USERN), the Pasteur Institute, and the Islamic Azad University.
The parties agreed to promote the development of bilateral academic and scientific cooperation by holding joint Internet conferences, scientific and practical conferences, seminars and symposia on topical problems of medicine; joint preparation of scientific articles and publications devoted not only to topical problems of medicine, but also to modern trends in education and health care for publication in medical journals; attracting highly qualified specialists from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Belarus to participate in the educational process.
At the end of the meeting, the university rector Anatol Sikorski thanked the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Mr. Said Yari for the hospitality and organization of a warm welcome.
Mr. Ambassador, in turn, thanked the guests for the visit, emphasizing the desire of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Belarus to support the Belarusian State Medical University in organizing the arrival of Iranian citizens for training and organizing the safe stay of Iranian students in the Republic of Belarus.
