Modern challenges in the treatment of various diseases, difficult epidemiological situation give rise to the need to develop new forms of increasing the level of knowledge of doctors and exchange of experience.
At the initiative of the Department of General Practice of the educational establishment “Belarusian State Medical University” together with the Ukrainian Association of Family Medicine, a scientific and practical conference using telemedicine technologies “Family medicine/general medical practice: yesterday, today, tomorrow” was held.
In the first part of the event, which took place in the form of a stream, the Chairman of the Belarusian Society of General Practitioners, Head of the Department of General Medical Practice of the Belarusian State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Vadim Sushinski and President of the Ukrainian Association of Family Medicine, Head of the Department of Family Medicine and Outpatient Care of the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P.L. Shupik, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Larisa Matyukha (Kiev) touched upon the topic of the general medical practice/family medicine development in Belarus and Ukraine, presenting the main forms of work used by medical specialists and promising directions for improving general medical practice/family medicine.
A number of clinical issues were raised during the conference. So, in the report “Iron deficiency anemia” Larisa Matyukha presented up-to-date information on the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in the most significant syndromes and diseases, taking into account the pathophysiology and modern drug and non-drug treatment methods. She paid special attention to the need for early detection of iron deficiency anemia, the general principles of pharmacotherapy of the disease, primary and secondary prevention of the disease.
Vadim Sushinski acquainted the participants of the webinar with the latest principles of diagnosis and treatment of arterial hypertension, set forth in international recommendations published in June this year. In the speech, in particular, emphasis was made on the need to use all methods for diagnosing arterial hypertension, active self-monitoring of blood pressure levels by patients and other important points. The specialist elaborated on the management of patients with hypertension and comorbid conditions.
Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice of the Belarusian State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Shilova in her report “Diagnostics and treatment of patients with mental and behavioral disorders in general medical practice using the example of depression” told, among other things, about the international experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders in the context of general practice. She acquainted the conference participants with the Protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders and noted the need for its implementation by general practitioners in their professional activities.
At the end of the event, its participants noted the importance of international cooperation and exchange of experience among specialists from different countries. They also focused on expanding telecommunications and other forms of interaction between institutions to improve the training of general practitioners and other health professionals.
