October 3 marks the 125th anniversary of great Russian poet Sergei Yesenin's birth. The club “Internationalist”, acting at the Department of Belarusian and Russian languages of the Belarusian State Medical University, devoted its regular meeting to this significant date. On October 5 more than 30 students from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Morocco, Lebanon and China gathered at a meeting dedicated to the classics of Russian literature.
The head of the department, Tatyana Melnikova addressed the audience with welcoming words. She noted the warm homely atmosphere of the evening, invited the guests to plunge into the enchanting world of Yesenin's poetry, expressed the hope that the lines of the great poet would find a warm response in the hearts of young people.
In the hall, Yesenin's poems were read by students, as well as works set to music and becoming popular. The guys not only read their favorite poems, but also talked about the life and creative path of the poet, recalled their favorite Yesenin’s quotes. Guests of the literary and musical evening had a unique opportunity to hear Sergei Yesenin’s voice recording, made almost 100 years ago, saw photographs from poet’s time.
Summing up the results of the meeting, Tatyana Samuylova, deputy head of the department for educational work, noted the ability of children to feel and understand what the Russian poet wrote about: his love for life and people, for nature, for his native land. Tatyana Samuylova thanked the participants of the evening and its organizers.
It seems that after this meeting, many students will want to hold a volume of Yesenin's poems again and hear the melody of their heart, see the beauty around them and, as the poet said, not just live, but feel.
