“Peculiarities of general medical practice with reference to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic”

With regard to the threat of a new wave of COVID-19 pandemic and growing incidence of COVID-19 in our country and worldwide, the primary health care institutions need to undertake preventive and rehabilitation measures. In order to help the primary health care institutions in addressing this challenging issue the educational institution “Belarusian State Medical University” organized and conducted a scientific and practical online workshop (webinar) entitled “Peculiarities of general medical practice with reference to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic”.

The speakers of the webinar were the faculty of the Department of General Medical Practice, and the participants were the doctors of the following health care institutions: “Ostrovets Central Regional Hospital”, “Uzda Central Regional Hospital”, “Svetlogorsk Central Regional Hospital”, “Novogrudok Central Regional Hospital”, “Braslav Central Regional Hospital”, “Goretsky Central Regional Hospital”, “Zhitkovichi Central Regional Hospital”, “Dyatlovsk Central Regional Hospital”, “Khotimsk Central Regional Hospital”, “Ivatsevichi Central Regional Hospital”.

The webinar was opened by the welcoming speech of the Dean of the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of the Belarusian State Medical University, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Oksana A. Teslova, who drew attention to the relevance of the webinar’s topic and the importance of distance learning in the current epidemiological situation.

The report entitled “Anxiety and mood disorders and their consequences in the course of COVID-19 pandemic” was presented by Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice, candidate of medical sciences Anatol Bliznyuk. The author noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has made significant changes in the management of medical care for the world's population and significantly changed intra- and interstate communications. COVID-19 pandemic gave rise to an epidemic of anxiety and panic disorders that provoke an exacerbation of mental and somatic diseases. The presentation outlines the causes, clinical manifestations, psychological and somatic consequences of anxiety disorders, as well as methods of their treatment and prevention.

The report entitled “Cardiovascular Risks in the course of COVID-19 pandemic” was presented by Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice, candidate of medical sciences Natalya N. Moroz-Vodolazhskaya. Natalya N. Moroz-Vodolazhskaya presented modern data on the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and the risks of cardiovascular diseases, highlighted the reasons for complications of coronavirus infection in patients with overweight, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, congenital heart defects, diabetes, heart failure; analyzed the results of scientific studies on the effectiveness of drugs applied in the treatment of COVID-19 patients who suffer from circulatory system diseases.

Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice, candidate of medical sciences Tatyana A. Gyurdzhyan presented a report “Viral conjunctivitis and keratitis”. She highlighted the issues of differential diagnosis and treatment of viral keratitis and conjunctivitis.

At the end of the webinar the Head of the Department of General Medical Practice, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Vadim E. Sushinsky emphasized the relevance of all presented reports and noted that the number of participants of the webinar grew up. He also suggested the participants to send applications for subsequent webinars in order to attract more doctors.
