The symposium “Interdisciplinary Approach in Dentistry” was held in Saint Petersburg on October 27-28 as part of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Stomatology of the Northern Capital”. The forum was organized by the Association of Public Organizations “Dental Association of Russia”, the public organization “Dental Association of St. Petersburg” and the Russian Periodontal Association. Taking into account the difficult epidemiological situation associated with COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium was held online.
Representatives of the Belarusian State Medical University also participated in the symposium. The member of the Academy of Dentistry International (ADI), rector of the leading medical university of our country, doctor of medical sciences, professor Sergey P. Rubnikovich presented the report on the use of cellular technologies in the treatment of periodontal diseases. According to professor Rubnikovich “the use of biomedical cell products is a promising trend in the development of modern medical science, in particular, dentistry. According to recent research the mesenchymal stem cells promote enhanced periodontal tissue regeneration, which significantly increases the effectiveness of the treatment”.
It should be noted that the participants of the symposium congratulated doctor of medical sciences, professor Sergey P. Rubnikovich on his new appointment as rector of the leading medical university and wished him every success in his new duties.
The report “Peculiarities of the orthodontic treatment of patients with periodontal diseases” was presented by professor of the 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of the Belarusian State Medical University, doctor of medical sciences Yulia L. Denisova. She emphasized that “the interdisciplinary treatment of patients with periodontal pathology, dentoalveolar anomalies and deformities includes periodontal, orthodontic and physiotherapeutic measures aimed at the improvement of the condition of periodontal tissues. In addition, they are aimed at treatment of occlusal trauma, creation of multiple occlusal contacts, providing a smile and facial harmony”.
The students of Dental Faculty of the Belarusian State Medical University also watched the broadcast of this international forum. Future dental specialists hung on every word of outstanding Belarusian, Russian and other specialists who talked about the most topical issues of modern dentistry. The students also had the opportunity to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers by doctor of medical sciences, professor Yulia L. Denisova.
Future dentists agreed that such forums help not only to enrich the bundle of knowledge in dentistry but also to get acquainted with the achievements of modern dentistry in Belarus and other countries. Therefore, international cooperation should continue even with reference to such a difficult time we live in.
