The International online competition for students of medical universities “Samarkand-2020” was organized by the Samarkand State Medical Institute on December 11-12. The program included a welcoming by participating teams, a creativity competition, a competition of scientific and innovative projects for young researchers, poster presentations and competitions in basic and clinical sciences among undergraduate students, master's degree students and clinical residents.
Students of Dental Faculty and Medical Faculty for International Students of the Belarusian State Medical University took an active part in the intellectual competition in the section “Pediatric Dentistry”. The participants had to complete tests, solve situational problems and demonstrate practical skills on the ZOOM platform. In total, about 2000 participants from Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Donetsk, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan took part in the competition.
In order to evaluate all the stages of the competition the international jury from 15 countries was organized. The chairman the section “Pediatric Dentistry” was the head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the Samarkand State Medical Institute, Professor Rustam A. Rakhimberdiev. From the Belarusian side, the jury was represented by the Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, doctor of medical sciences, professor Natalya V. Shakovets and Deputy head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry for medical work, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Elena I. Melnikova. 33 students participated in the competitions in the section. 25 students entered the second round, including 11 students from the Belarusian State Medical University.
The whole day of December 11 was devoted to the competitions, and their results were announced online on December 12. The faculty of the Samarkand State Medical Institute, under the leadership of the rector, doctor of medical sciences, professor Zhasur A. Rizaev, prepared an excellent video about their city and Alma Mater and then sang a hymn of their own composition dedicated to doctors caring for patients with COVID-19.
Students of the Belarusian State Medical University showed excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills in Pediatric Dentistry. Ruslan Vershitsky (group 7512) became the winner in the nomination “The best solution of test tasks”, Norair Ghukasyan (group 7513) became the winner in the nomination “The best solution of situational problems in pediatric dentistry”. The absolute winner of the competition in the section “Pediatric Dentistry” was Javidjahromi Gazal Mahmud (group 6411), a student of the Medical Faculty for International Students of the Belarusian State Medical University, who brilliantly passed all the stages of the competition!
The Samarkand-2020 Competition demonstrates that new realities pose new challenges for the organizers, and such an innovative form of holding the competition can be successfully implemented. Congratulations to the organizers, all participants and winners on such a wonderful holiday!
