The Interacademic Open Plenary Meeting of the Student Scientific Clubs of BSMU and VSMU Dental Faculties “Topical Issues of Dentistry” was held for the first time (online). BSMU was represented by the students – members of the SSCs 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Department of General Dentistry, VSMU – the Department of General Dentistry and the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry with a course of career enhancement and retraining. The meeting took place in ZOOM without either limitations in time or in the number of participants. 1st-5th year international students of Dental and Medical Faculties and the lecturers expressed great interest and were enthusiastic during this meeting.
The plenary meeting was opened by Tatiana Leonidovna Shevela, Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor, responsible for scientific work at the Faculty of Dentistry (now its dean). She emphasized the particular importance of exchanging scientific knowledge not only among practicing physicians and department staff, but also among students striving to broaden their horizons for further practical and scientific activities.
The dean of VSMU Dental Faculty, Professor Ivan Yurievich Karpuk, Doctor of Medicine, also greeted the participants. He emphasized the importance of such scientific meetings and highly appreciated the efforts of Professor Ludmila Nikolaevna Dedova, Doctor of Medicine, Head of 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of BSMU, who promotes the development of scientific work not only within the university, but also in other medical establishments of higher education.
The heads of the SSCs departments – Alexander Sergeevich Solomevich, Candidate of Medicine, Assistant Denis Leonidovich Korchigin and Assistant Denis Viktorovich Afanasiev – also welcomed the participants. The meeting was hosted by the mentors of the SSCs departments: Vasily Solomevich, Anastasia Rubnikovich and Andrey Goncharov.
Then, students delivered reports on the topical issues of modern dentistry. Ruslan Vershitsky, student of group 7512 (Dental Faculty of BSMU), delivered the report “Condition of gums after the usage of nicotine alternatives” (Research Advisor: Professor Yulia Leonidovna Denisova, Doctor of Medicine, Deputy Head of 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry for Educational and Methodical Work). Andrey Goncharov, a 2nd year student of group 2 (Dental Faculty of VSMU), delivered the report “The prospects of using cytological method for diagnostics of oral mucous membrane dysplasia” (Research Advisor: Natalya Anatolievna Karpuk , Associate Professor of the Department of General and Prosthetic Dentistry with a course of career enhancement and retraining, Candidate of Medicine, Doctoral Candidate of Orthopedic Dentistry and Orthodontics with a course of Pediatric Dentistry of BelMAPO).
After opening presentations, the audience learned useful information essential for the education of the younger professionals and the development of healthy lifestyle habits on issues of interdental hygiene.
Next report was presented by Arina Bagdasaryan and Karina Romanovich, students of group 7211 (BSMU, Dental Faculty), entitled “Application of Clinometer in Dentistry” (Research Advisor: Nonna Arkadyevna Gres, Associate Professor, Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor of the Department of General Dentistry).
And the closing report “Sensitization to titanium dioxide in patients with periimplantitis” was presented by Anna Ignatenko, a 2nd year student (VSMU, Dental Faculty) (Research Advisors: Professor Ivan Karpuk, Doctor of Medicine, Dean of Dental Faculty; Denis Afanasyev, Assistant of General and Prosthodontics Department with a course of career enhancement and retraining).
The presentations sparked a lively discussion amongst the participants. Then, they were invited to partake in a quiz, at the end of which the most erudite junior and senior students were recognized.
At the end of meeting the students thanked the tutors of 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, the Department of General Dentistry of BSMU and the Department of General and Orthopedic Dentistry with the course of career enhancement and retraining of VSMU for the opportunity to improve and gain skills in the chosen profession.
