Belarusian State Medical University celebrated Nowruz – the festival of the spring equinox – a day when nature is reborn and the good forces of light prevail over the dark forces of evil. The national communities of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Iran, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon came together to celebrate the awakening of new life.
The celebration began with a wonderful Kushdepty dance performed by a group of students from Turkmenistan.
The hosts of the event, Anastasia Ivanova (Kazakhstan), and Evgeny Lee (Kazakhstan), invited all international students to welcome spring, recall national traditions, and demonstrate the diversity of their dishes, cultures and customs.
The honorary guests of the event: Professor Sergey Petrovich Rubnikovich, Rector of BSMU, Professor Vasili Vasilievich Rudenok, Vice-rector for International Relations, Associate Professor Pavel Viktorovich Markautsan, Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Associate Professor Oleg Sergeevich Ishutin, Dean of Medical Faculty for International Students, and the educators and tutors of the communities.

The international student choir «Dominanta» (Head – Ekaterina Akulich) congratulated the participants and guests with a nice musical gift.
The national communities delighted the guests with an exhibition dedicated to the culture of the Eastern countries which annually celebrate Nowruz. National clothes, hats and handicrafts of the participating countries were on display. Indian students conducted a master class on henna painting. This is how the holiday was celebrated at Belarusian State Medical University.
The national food was particularly delightful. The scent and food presentation beckoned the audience to start tasting it at once.
The variety group «Talent» (Head – Alexander Chugunov) presented a concert program for the guests and participants of the festival. Students from various countries sang national songs and performed dances; they also demonstrated their talents and artistic skills.
The celebration ended with a disco party, which brought many nationalities together in a vortex of dancing.
The Student Club would like to express its gratitude to the Dean's Office of the Medical Faculty for International Students, the leaders and educators of national communities for their help in organizing the event.
