Wrestling has been a martial art since the dawn of time. There were no rigid rules: sometimes even the rules of a fight were set by mutual agreement. However, there are general rules of wrestling.
The main factors influencing the technique of wrestling are the essence of victory, ways of achieving victory permitted and forbidden by the rules, a wrestler’s attire, the duration of a fight. Besides, the wrestler's attire considerably influences the wrestling technique. For example, a sambo wrestler goes to the mat wearing a special jacket, shorts and shoes (wrestling shoes).
Sambo is a relatively new, but rather popular and rapidly growing sport of martial arts. It was evolved by combining various schools of martial arts. Wrestling includes the best practices of different fighting styles, which is not surprising at all.
For those who are not familiar with wrestling let us explain that sambo is a stand and ground wrestling with kicks, grappling below the belt and painful holds.
On April 28-30 Grodno hosted the sambo competition as a part of the National University Games 2021. The best sambo wrestlers of the country appeared on the stage of the Olympic Reserve Centre to compete for the title of the strongest one.
