International Symposium on the History of Pharmacy was held online on April 23-24. It was hosted by International Society for the History of Pharmacy. The program of the event included 17 reports presented by specialists from different countries: Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, Iran, Italy, Spain, Romania, Czech Republic and Switzerland.
The Belarusian representatives were Valentina Sosonkina (Leading Specialist of Organizational-Pharmaceutical Department at Belfarmatsiya Republican Unitary Enterprise, Head of Pharmacy History Club at Farmabel Republican Association of Pharmaceutical Workers), Anastasia Shelukhina (Assistant Lecturer of Pharmacological Department at Belarusian State Medical University), Daria Sukhodolova (Specialist-Provisor of Pharmaceutical Support Department at Minsk Pharmacy Unitary Enterprise), Anton Shaulo (Senior Specialist-Provisor of Organizational-Pharmaceutical Department at Belpharmacy Republican Unitary Enterprise).
The conference featured reports on various subjects such as remedies for seasickness from ancient codes, herbalists and pharmacopoeias; a brief history of Tibetan traditional medicine; a new degree of pharmacist in the Napoleonic period (1802-1805) and many others.
Anastasia Shelukhina paid attention to the formation and development of the Department of Pharmacology at BSMU in 1920-1940. She also spoke about its contribution to pharmaceutical education and pharmaceutical activities.
The report drew attention of the symposium participants. The speaker was asked follow-up questions on the program of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacology, established in 1932, as well as on the state of pharmaceutical education these days.
