On June 7, an online conference was held with the Rector of Myrat Garryev State Medical University of Turkmenistan, Professor Nargozel Muratnazarova. Belarusian State Medical University was represented by the Rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich, and Vice-Rector for International Relations, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vasili Roudenok.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss academic and scientific cooperation between the universities and the acquaintance of the Rectors.
Belarusian State Medical University has been efficiently cooperating with Myrat Garryiev State Medical University since 2012 under the Agreement on Academic and Scientific Cooperation.
It should be noted that 337 students from Turkmenistan undergo professional training at BSMU (283 foreign students study at the Medical Faculty, 54 at the Clinical Residency Department). The training is conducted in four specialties of higher education and 22 specialties of clinical internship. Graduates of the Medical Faculty for International Students often obtain degrees with honours; they are also highly qualified specialists and practise their profession both in Belarus and in their home country.
Rector Sergey Rubnikovich underlined that Belarusian State Medical University provides high quality education, fundamental knowledge and practice-oriented training of specialists with about 70 training bases. The curricula that students follow come as close as possible to international standards.
Rector of Myrat Gariyev State Medical University, Professor Nargazel Muratnazarova, emphasized the need of training future specialists in cosmetology, neurocardiology, neuroophthalmology, neurophysiology, gynecology and neonatology. The parties also agreed to hold topic-oriented online conferences and to recruit specialists to provide highly qualified medical care in Turkmenistan.
The university representatives agreed to pursue productive cooperation and discussed further plans. The educational program of BSMU will be supplemented with digital technologies, which the institution is ready to share with its colleagues from Turkmenistan. Professor Rubnikovich noted the willingness to share experience, educational programs, scientific articles and to develop cooperation in the field of dentistry.

It is worth noting that Myrat Garryev State Medical University will celebrate its 90th anniversary this year and Belarusian State Medical University will celebrate its 100th anniversary. On this occasion, the heads of the leading universities of Belarus and Turkmenistan invited each other to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of such significant events.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed hope for the long-term and fruitful cooperation.
