This summer a significant event in the development of bilateral cooperation in developing cooperation in the field of specialists’ training for practical health care of the People’s Republic of China took place – the ceremony of signing an Agreement between the Belarusian State Medical University and International Educational Alliance “Union of Western & Eastern Education” (UWEE, Beijing, China). Taking into account the epidemiological situation, the ceremony was held in the format of a videoconference.
The delegation was hosted by Rector of the university, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich. The meeting was also attended by Vice-Rector for International Relations, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vasili Roudenok and Head of the Department of International Relations Varvara Boika.
International Educational Alliance “Union of Western & Eastern Education” was represented by President Yan Fei, as well as Vice-President Li Zhogchun, Board Member and General Director of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia Cui Zhunyuan, Representative of the Association in the Republic of Belarus Maya Voitekhovich.
LLC Amy International was represented by Director Van Xiaomei and Deputy General Director Van Qingfeng.
Rector of the university, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich emphasized in his welcoming speech that since it was established in 1921, the university acquired the status of a leading higher medical educational institution of the Republic of Belarus, made a significant contribution to domestic and world medical science, trained thousands of qualified doctors dedicated to their work, became an important stakeholder in the global educational space.
The Rector noted that the Medical University has highly qualified teaching staff, modern clinical facilities and comfortable living conditions for students. One of the most important priorities of the university is to improve the quality of medical specialists training. That is why systematic work is carried out to introduce innovative forms and technologies of teaching, curricula are being improved and programs for improving the qualifications of the teaching staff are being implemented.
A special emphasis was made on the scientific work of the leading higher medical educational institution. According to Professor Rubnikovich, the Belarusian State Medical University is also the center of modern medical science with more than 30 scientific schools. More than half of the students are involved in various scientific circles. Moreover, the Belarusian State Medical University occupies the top position of scientific performance rating among scientific organizations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus.
Rector of the university, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich emphasized that the university strives to maintain a comfortable multicultural environment among international students, since more than 2 thousand foreign citizens from more than 50 countries of the world study at BSMU, including citizens of the People's Republic of China who study at the Faculty of Career Guidance and Pre-University Training, the Medical Faculty for International Students, programs of postgraduate studies and clinical residency.
Professor Rubnikovich noted that the University finds an interest in deepening cooperation with International Educational Alliance “Union of Western & Eastern Education” in the field of recruiting foreign citizens for training at BSMU and indicated readiness to sign a cooperation agreement.
President of International Educational Alliance “Union of Western & Eastern Education” Yan Fei, in his response speech, thanked the rector for supporting the development of bilateral cooperation. Yan Fei stated that over the past few years, a great bulk of work has been done by both sides, in particular, Minsk Belt and Road International Medical Higher Education and Industry Forum was organized. This Forum has become the first international forum with the purpose to discuss achievements in research, development, standardization and application of approaches in the field of pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
Yan Fei emphasized that building international cooperation in the field of medical education under the auspices of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative is the main priority of Union of Western & Eastern Education. Therefore, the signing of a bilateral agreement will be a logical prolongation of efforts of both sides.
Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Vasili Roudenok noted that all the main areas of cooperation was discussed and approved, and suggested to conclude an agreement on cooperation.
The culmination of the online meeting was the solemn signing of Agreement on Cooperation in Recruiting, Sending and Inviting Foreign Citizens to Study at Belarusian State Medical University.
