Cooperation with Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport is growing rapidly

Cooperation with Arab Academy of Science,

Belarusian State Medical University is constantly expanding the network of international partnership. As a follow-up to the agreements reached at the end of June 2021 upon the visit of Professor Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, Rector of Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (Egypt), and within the framework of the Academic and Scientific Cooperation Agreement signed between the universities – one more visit of our Egyptian partners was paid to Belarusian State Medical University.

Aiming to study the organization of educational process at the Dental Faculty and the Pharmaceutical Faculty of Belarusian State Medical University and discuss the main vectors of bilateral cooperation in academic year 2021-2022, the Dean of the Dental Faculty of Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Professor Tarek Mahmoud, Deputy Dean for Educational and Scientific Activities of Pharmaceutical College of Arab Academy visited BSMU. So, students of the Dental and Pharmaceutical Faculties of the Egyptian Academy have arrived at BSMU to undergo educational practice. On September 20, their meeting with Rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergej Rubnikovich took place. Vice-Rector for International Relations, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vasili Roudenok; Dean of the Dental Faculty, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Tatiana Shevela; Dean of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Natalia Gurina; Head of the Foreign Languages Department, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Marina Petrova, as well as the students of the Dental and Pharmaceutical Faculties of Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport were present at the meeting.

Professor Rubnikovich made a presentation on the history, structure, educational and scientific activities of BSMU. He described in more detail the organization of the educational process at the Dental and Pharmaceutical Faculties, noting that the competition for admission to the specialties “Dentistry” and “Pharmacy” is the highest in Belarus. These specialties are in demand among both local and foreign citizens.

Afterwards, Professor Rubnikovich elaborated on the university’s international activities, stressing that the system of foreign partnership covers over 120 leading educational and scientific institutions from almost 30 countries. Students from over 50 countries study at BSMU. Special attention was paid not only to training specialists, but also to students’ cultural and sports life.

Having addressed to the students, who undertake academic practice at BSMU, Professor Rubnikovich expressed the hope that they would get acquainted not only with the educational institution, but also establish contacts with their colleagues-students from BSMU, share experience, academic materials, which would allow them to become the best specialists in the country.

At the end of the meeting the parties also exchanged souvenirs. Then, the Egyptian guests were given a tour around the anatomy museum and practical training laboratory.

It should be said that the programs of the Egyptian deans at BSMU were quite eventful and were aimed at studying the educational process and scientific research directions at the Dental and Pharmaceutical Faculties.

For instance, the working program of Professor Tarek Mahmud included acquaintance with the Dental Faculty, negotiations on academic and scientific cooperation with Tatiana Shevela, some visits to the Department of Human Morphology and some departments of the dental profile: 3rd Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, 1st Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, and the Departments of Orthopedic, Pediatric, Surgical and Maxillofacial Dentistry. Professor Tarek Mahmud had a meeting with the heads of the departments and discussed the issues of inter-department cooperation in the educational and scientific areas.

Professor Amira Senbel acquainted with educational and scientific activities of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, held negotiations on academic and scientific issues with Dean Natalya Gurina, listened to the lecture “Pharmaceutical Education in the Republic of Belarus”, visited the Departments of Bioorganic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, Medical and Biological Physics, Organisation of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacology, as well as the pharmacy of “Belfarmacia”.

At the end of the visit the results of the departmental work were summarized and the sides exchanged their experience in educational process organization and scientific research on topical problems of dentistry and pharmacy, what, undoubtedly, will improve the effectiveness of specialists training for practical healthcare of both countries.

The Egyptian guests highly appreciated the training level of dentists and pharmacists at Belarusian State Medical University. Cooperation agreements were signed as a result of the visit. They envisage education and practice of the Egyptian students in two specialties: dentists in clinical residency and pharmacists in master’s program.

The Egyptian party invited Professor Rubnikovich and other deans to visit their Academy. The heads and professors of the departments were also invited to deliver lectures, conduct practical classes, seminars and workshops for Egyptian students and professors, as well as to discuss joint scientific projects and hold scientific and practical conferences on topical issues of dentistry and pharmacy.
