As a part of the official visit of the delegation of Volgograd region of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus, headed by First Deputy Governor of Volgograd region – Chairman of the Finance Committee of Volgograd region Alexander Dorzhdeyev, Vice-Rector for Work with Foreign Students and International Relations of Volgograd State Medical University Natalia Alshuk visited Belarusian State Medical University. On September 27, she had a meeting with Rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergej Rubnikovich and Vice-Rector for International Relations, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vasili Roudenk. The main topic was the discussion of prospective directions of bilateral academic and scientific cooperation between the universities.
Sergej Rubnikovich delivered a presentation about Belarusian State Medical University and told about the history, structure, educational and scientific activities, the peculiarities of the educational process organization. The priority of the university international activity is academic development and scientific cooperation on a long-term contract basis with foreign universities and international health care organisations. The network of partners includes more than 120 foreign universities from nearly 30 countries.
As Professor Rubnikovich underlined, Belarus and Russia are countries that are close in educational, cultural, scientific and humanitarian ways. That is why Belarusian State Medical University maintains most active cooperation with the Russian Federation, and despite the epidemiological situation, the partnership is still strengthening and developing.
Natalia Alshuk, Vice-rector for Work with Foreign Students and International Relations, noted that Volgograd State Medical University is interested in establishing mutually beneficial partnership with Belarusian State Medical University on a long-term contract basis. She explained that Volgograd State Medical University was founded in 1935. After such a long historical path, it became a leader in medical education in the Russian Federation, and one of the largest medical and pharmaceutical universities in the country as per the number of students. Being an integral complex of ongoing professional education and the research centre, Volgograd State Medical University is willing to offer its experience to the leading institution of higher education in the Republic of Belarus. Natalia Alshuk spoke about the possibility of future exchange of students and teachers as part of academic mobility programs. The parties also agreed to develop networking and cooperation in the form of distance learning sessions (lectures, workshops, trainings, etc.) in the specialty “General Medicine”.

The official meeting ended with the signing of the Agreement on academic and scientific cooperation between Belarusian State Medical University and Volgograd State Medical University.
Sergej Rubnikovich took the opportunity to extend an invitation to Rector of Volgograd State Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Shkarin to take part in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of BSMU. The parties exchanged souvenirs.
After the ceremony, an excursion around the university was organized for Natalya Alshuk. She was offered to visit the department of anatomy and had a tour of BSMU Anatomy Museum; the functions of anatomy table and perspectives of its use in educational process were also demonstrated to her. The practical training organisation was introduced at the laboratory of practical training where the classes are held using the modern equipment, simulators, manikins and phantoms.
Belarusian State Medical University hopes to develop fruitful cooperation with Volgograd State Medical University as a result of this meeting.
