The international oratory contest among students and cadets “Ciceronius-2022” was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus on May 20-21. By the way, it is very popular and long-awaited event. For 17 years, “Ciceronius” has been a platform for demonstrating the verbal skills of talented young people.
This year 32 participants competed in the public speaking contest: representatives of Belarus, China, Russia, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka. Belarusian State Medical University was represented by 3rd year students of the Medical Faculty for International Students - Sadik Junkir Zamani and Sanjeyan Sugumar. The triumph of our English-speaking students was ensured thanks to the work of a whole team of teachers of the Department of the Belarusian and Russian languages: senior teachers Yulia Makhnach, Olga Gromova, Kristina Popovskaya, head of the department, Candidate of Philological Sciences, associate Professor Tatiana Melnikova.
The contestants gave three-minute speeches on the topic “The world through the eyes of a young man!”. The jury evaluated the performances according to the following criteria: disclosure of the content of the topic, the logic of the speech, the originality of the presentation, contact with the audience, the demeanour, imagery and expressiveness of the statement.
“Every year the competition becomes stronger,” said the inspirer of the project, Professor of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor Vasily Golubev. Students creatively approached the disclosure of the topic of the competition, showing creativity, originality and depth of thinking. The spirit of competition was in the air, encouraging young people to perform at the peak of their abilities.
Students of Belarusian State Medical University received high marks from the jury, audience support and were awarded diplomas: Sadiq Junkir Zamani – I degree diploma and Sanjeyan Sugumar – II degree diploma.
Awarding Sadik Junkir Zamani, the jury members especially noted her exceptionally fluent command of the audience, inner emancipation, skillful gestures and emotional connection with the audience.
“I am a future doctor, I am studying at the medical faculty already in the third year,” Sadik Junkir Zamani shared her emotions. – I will definitely participate in this competition again. I like Belarus with its kind and sympathetic people. And I really liked how I was received by the audience at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
Presenting well-deserved diplomas to the winners of the international public speaking contest among students “Ciceronius -2022”, the head of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Major General of Militia Alexander Vasiliev noted the scale and significance of the competition, and also thanked everyone for their long-term cooperation. A festive concert gave a special mood to the participants and guests of the event.
