Students of partner universities from Moscow and St. Petersburg underwent practical training at Belarusian State Medical University

Belarusian State Medical University has close relations with many universities of the Russian Federation. The similarity in defining medical education and healthcare tasks determines the development of academic mobility programs in Belarus and Russia. In the field of student mobility, the key partners are I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov (St. Petersburg).

This year, for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a record 26 students studying in the specialty 'General Medicine', 'Pediatrics', 'Dentistry' and 'Preventive Medicine' came to the Belarus leading medical university for practical training. In addition, for students from Russia, practice at Belarusian State Medical University is a new experience and a lot of positive emotions, as well as an opportunity to find new friends.

The first days of practice began with acquaintance with the university. The students talked with the Vice-Rector for International Relations, deans of faculties and representatives of the Department of International Relations. The students visited the Alma Mater History Museum, the Anatomical Museum and the Simulation and Certification center.

In the following days, an exciting practical training program was developed for our Russian guests. The practical training was organized for students of the International School 'Medicine of the Future' of Sechenov University under the guidance of the Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center 'Cardiology', chief cardiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, Head of BSMU Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Natalia Mitkovskaya. The students deepened their knowledge and improved their practical skills in the field of cardiology, surgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation while working at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center 'Cardiology' and the 4th City Clinical Hospital named after N. E. Savchenko.

Students of the N. F. Filatov Clinical Institute of Children's Health of Sechenov University had the opportunity to visit the leading pediatric clinics in Minsk – at the clinical bases of Belarusian State Medical University. Thus, students got acquainted with the achievements in pediatric hematology and immunology at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology under the leadership of the Director of the center, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Angelika Solntseva. The students were trained in children's infectious diseases at the clinical base of the Department of Children's Infectious Diseases – at the City Children's Infectious Clinical Hospital (under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Natalia Galkevich). Students were able to expand their knowledge of pediatrics and neonatology at the 1st and 2nd Departments of Children's Diseases, as well as at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center 'Mother and Child' under the guidance of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Bayko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Natalia  Mikulchik, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Alla Ustinovich. The practical training in pediatric surgery was organized at the clinical base of the Department of Pediatric Surgery – at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Surgery (under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Yuri Degtyarev).

Dental students from North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov practiced at the University Dental Clinic: at the Departments of Pediatric Dentistry (under the guidance of the head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Natalia Shakovets), Conservative Dentistry (under the guidance of the head of the Department, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Lyudmila Kazeko) and Maxillofacial Surgery (under the guidance of the head of the department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alexander Lastovka).

The practice of hygiene and epidemiology for students of the Medical and Preventive Faculty of North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov was organized on the basis of the Minsk City Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology. There our guests were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus on sanitary and epidemiological control of territories and facilities, with the basics of organizing and conducting state supervision.

In their free time, the students studied the historical sights of the city of Minsk and the surrounding area, visited the Mir castle complex, got acquainted with the peculiarities of the Belarusian national cuisine and traditions.

The solemn certificates presentation completed the stay of Russian students on July 28. Rector, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Rubnikovich, Deans of the Pediatric Faculty, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Elena Filippovich, Faculty of Preventive Medicine, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Andrey Gindyuk, Dental Faculty, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Tatiana Shevela, Head of Department of International Relations Varvara Boika, representatives of the Faculty of General Medicine took part in the meeting.

Sergey Rubnikovich had a warm conversation with future colleagues from Moscow and St. Petersburg. He asked them about their impressions of the practice, as well as about the sights of Belarus that the students could see during excursions around the republic.

The Russian students thanked the BSMU administration and the students for the warm welcome, for the opportunity to get acquainted with the Belarusian healthcare system and not only.

At the end of the communication, the rector of the university congratulated the students on the successful completion of the practical training and wished them success in their studies and future professional activities. Sergey Rubnikovich expressed gratitude to the administration of partner universities for the development of student mobility, noting the readiness of Belarusian State Medical University to maintain partnerships in the future.

The meeting ended with the presentation of certificates along with souvenirs, and, of course, with the photo for memory.
