Students of the Dental Faculty of BSMU won the entire podium of the International Olympiad

On December 16-17, the III International Olympiad of Students of medical Universities 'Samarkand-2020' was held, which was organized by Samarkand State Medical University. The competition was held offline and online in 34 medical fundamental and clinical disciplines. The program included a video greeting of participating teams, a competition of scientific projects of young scientists, competitions in subject areas among students. Contestants from 70 universities from different countries participated in the Olympiad.

Students of the Dental faculty of the educational institution 'Belarusian State Medical University' took an active part in the intellectual online competition in the section 'Pediatric Dentistry' with great enthusiasm. The competitions included answers to test tasks, demonstration of knowledge on the theoretical section, solving situational problems. The practical stage was a task to record a video demonstrating the implementation of the procedure for sealing fissures.

An international jury was created to evaluate all stages. From the Belarusian side, the head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Natallia Shakavets and Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Elena Melnikova were invited to it. 28 students took part in the competitions at the section, including five from BSMU. After solving the test tasks, 8 participants who scored 70 or more points out of 100 possible reached the final. I would like to note with special pride that four of the eight finalists represented Belarusian State Medical University.

The whole day of December 16 was devoted to competitions, and their results were announced online on December 17. Four students of the Dental Faculty of BSMU demonstrated excellent theoretical knowledge and practical manual skills in the final, taking all the prizes according to the results: Elizaveta Chernyavskaya (group 7503) took the III place, Anastasia Savanets (group 7508) and Ivona Avdey (group 7503) shared the II place, and the I places and the title of 'Absolute Champion' Victoria Korotkova (student of group 7502) was awarded, who scored 93 (out of 100 possible) points according to the test results, demonstrating brilliant knowledge and practical skills in the discipline 'Pediatric dentistry'.

The staff of Samarkand Medical University, under the guidance of the rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Zhasur Rizaev, prepared a wonderful video about their city and Alma Mater, and also performed a song of their own composition dedicated to doctors.

The III International Olympiad 'Samarkand-2020' helped to make sure that new realities pose new challenges to the organizers and such an innovative form of competition can be successfully implemented.
