«Gold», «silver», «bronze» – the result of future dentists from BSMU at the International Olympiad of Student Skills

The International Student Olympiad on Pediatric therapeutic dentistry of age and prevention was held on May 15-16 at Tashkent State Dental Institute. Its peculiarity is the possibility of participation in both full–time and online formats, which united students from different countries. Students from four universities of Uzbekistan (Tashkent, Bukhara, Andijan, Samarkand), as well as from Moscow State Medical and Dental University named after A. I. Evdokimov, National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov and Belarusian State Medical University competed in knowledge and professional skills.

 The purpose of the Student Olympiad was to search for gifted students, increase interest in studying special subjects, and develop students' ability to apply their knowledge in a non-standard competitive environment. In general, such events help to strengthen friendship and cooperation between universities and adopt the positive experience of colleagues.

An online format of the Olympiad was organized for the teams who could not come in person.

The rector of Tashkent State Dental Institute, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nodir Haidarov, Professor of Kazakh National Medical University Gulzhan Ermukhanova, Professor of  Tashkent State Dental Institute Saidazim Murtazaev, associate professor of  Moscow State Medical and Dental University Maxim Shevchenko, head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of BSMU, Doctor of Medical Sciences made welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony sciences, Professor Natalia Shakovets, who wished the contestants successful completion of tasks.

The competition program for participants in the online format included various forms of competitive tests: diagnosis and justification, differential diagnosis and choice of treatment tactics in the described clinical situation, determination of the child's age based on an orthopantomogram.

The team of the Dental Faculty of Belarusian State Medical University was worthily represented by 5th-year students Elizaveta Chernyavskaya and Victoria Korotkova, 4th-year students Alexandra Leonovich and Anastasia Malyshko, who demonstrated a high level of knowledge and professional training.

According to the results of the Olympiad, Victoria Korotkova was awarded a diploma for the first place in the nomination 'The most erudite pediatric dentist'. In the same nomination, the second place was awarded to Elizabeth Chernyavskaya and the third place to Anastasia Malyshko. Alexandra Leonovich took the third place in the nomination 'The best expert in pediatric dentistry'.

A special contribution to the preparation of the team was made by the teachers of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of BSMU, without whom it would have been impossible to achieve such results.

We thank the management of Tashkent State Dental Institute and the organizing committee of the International Student Olympiad for the high level of competitions, transparency of evaluation, as well as the opportunity given to students to demonstrate their knowledge and gain new experience.
