On June 6, 2019, the Belarusian State Medical University was visited by the Head of the Department of International Relations of the Israeli Ministry of Health Salmon Asher.
The main purpose of the visit was to familiarize with the organization of the educational process, the structure of the Belarusian State Medical University, the higher medical educational system of the Republic of Belarus, to discuss the development of Belarusian-Israeli cooperation in the field of higher medical education and health care, as well as the prospects for establishing inter-university cooperation and attracting citizens of the State of Israel to study at the Belarusian State Medical University.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the Republic of Belarus Alon Shoham, Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Valery A.Malashko; Rector of the Belarusian State Medical University Anatol V.Sikorsky; Vice-Rector for International Relations of the Belarusian State Medical University Vasili V.Rudenok; Head of the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Professor Oleg O.Rummo; Chairman of the Board of Founders of BelInter Media Service LLC Naum Ya.Furash; Head of the joint project of BelInter Media Service LLC and the Belarusian State Medical University Yulia Danovich.
During the meeting the University Rector Anatol V.Sikorsky made a presentation with information about the Belarusian State Medical University and spoke about the history, structure, educational and scientific activities of the university, as well as about the features of the educational process. It was noted that the medical university has a highly qualified teaching staff, modern clinical facilities and comfortable living conditions for students. The university attaches the greatest importance to the improvement of the quality of training of medical specialists, provided by the introduction of innovative forms and technologies of education by equipping with technical means used in the learning process, improving curricula and programs, and improving the qualifications of teaching staff.
The increase in the number of Israeli students is stipulated by the launch of the four-year English-program in General Medicine for the citizens of the State of Israel. The program provides Israeli citizens with higher education in related medical specialties the right to continue their education from the 3rd year. This program is based on educational experience in training medical specialists in universities of Israel, the United States of America and Canada.
The parties expressed mutual interest in training of Israeli citizens in English at the Belarusian State Medical University in the first level of higher education, and also took into account the decision of the authorized state bodies of the Republic of Belarus on the start of the accreditation process of the Education Quality Control Department of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus in the International Federation of Medical Education (WFME).
Given that a large number of Israeli citizens receive higher medical education abroad, the parties agreed to consider the possibility of creating on the base of the Belarusian State Medical University a scientific and methodological center for foreign medical universities / faculties in which Israeli citizens receive higher medical education.
After the official meeting Dr. Asher was given a tour of the university, including the Museum of the Department of Normal Anatomy and Centre for Practical Training. Dr. Asher also visited one of the clinical bases of the university - the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology.
In addition the Head of the Department of International Relations of the Israeli Ministry of Health Salmon Asher met with Israeli citizens studying at the university. The students noted a high level of organization of the educational process, as well as all conditions for a comfortable stay of foreign citizens at the Belarusian State Medical University.
At the end of the meeting, the parties indicated the desirability of maintaining and developing educational, scientific, practical and organizational contacts on an ongoing basis at the level of the Ministries of Health and at the level of medical universities and faculties, clinical centers and scientific institutions of the two countries.
