On June 7–9, 2019 the annual International Congress on the Prevention and Treatment of Thromboembolism “Thrombosis Management - 2019” took place in Barcelona (Spain). The Congress was organized under the auspices of the International Steering Committee of Thrombosis Management.
The participation of the Belarusian delegation in the plenary sessions of the Congress is very important due to the relevance of the problem of thromboembolism, which today is becoming a global "epidemic", having a significant negative impact on important medical and social indicators. Thromboembolic complications occupy a leading position in the structure of the entire cardiovascular pathology, and the number of fatal outcomes in this case exceeds the annual number of deaths from well-known cancer diseases such as breast cancer and colorectal cancer.
The Belarusian State Medical University was represented at the Congress by Vice-Rector for Scientific work, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Vladimir Khryshchanovich. V. Khryshchanovich presented a report entitled “Modern trends in the diagnosis and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE)”.
The members of the Belarusian delegation took part in four plenary sessions of the International Congress “Thrombosis Management - 2019” devoted to the issues of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients with arterial and venous thrombosis and embolism.
The Belarusian delegation had the unique opportunity to listen to the reports of noted throughout the world specialists in the field of problems of thrombosis and hemostasis - A.K. Kakkar, S. Konstantinides, H. Bounameux, M.R. Patel, who presented thematic reports "Treatment of patients with pulmonary embolism", "Prevention of recurrent venous thrombosis", "The degree of patients' adherence to anticoagulant therapy", "Management of patients with atrial fibrillation after percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI)".
Belarusian specialists also participated in interesting and useful practical seminars entitled “Cancer-associated thrombosis”, “Pulmonary embolism: from recommendations to practice”, “Long-term anticoagulant therapy: for whom and for how long?”, “Emergency care for patients receiving anticoagulant therapy”.
While reviewing clinical cases the participants of the Congress were informed about the achievements of Belarusian health care and the original developments of scientists of the Belarusian State Medical University in the treatment of venous thrombosis as well. On the sidelines of the Congress the issues of international cooperation were also discussed and some important international links were established.
The information on innovative technologies for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism will be used in the educational process and practical healthcare of the Republic of Belarus.
