The official visit of Vice-Rectors for scientific work of higher educational institutions

Belarus and Uzbekistan are countries separated by thousands of kilometers, but closely connected by educational, cultural, scientific, and humanitarian ties. The rapid development of bilateral economic relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan became an impetus for the promotion of bilateral academic and scientific cooperation between higher educational institutions of the two countries.

The Belarusian State Medical University is also at the forefront of this process. The University has already concluded Agreements on academic and scientific cooperation with five higher medical educational institutions of Uzbekistan: Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute (Tashkent), Tashkent Medical Academy (Tashkent), Andijan State Medical Institute (Andijan), Tashkent State Dental Institute (Tashkent), Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Therapy and Medical Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Tashkent).

In 2018-2019 academic year the following events took place: several visits of BSMU partners - Tashkent Medical Academy and Tashkent State Dental Institute, clinical practice of students of Tashkent Medical Academy at BSMU clinical departments, several workshops in therapy and cardiology within the framework of scientific conferences held in Uzbekistan, etc. Nevertheless, it is planned to deepen bilateral cooperation with Uzbek partners in future.

During the period from July 22 to August 5 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus in Belarus and in the framework of the I Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan Vice-Rectors for scientific work of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan underwent traineeship according to specially elaborated program entitled “Current State and Prospects of the Development of Scientific and Innovative Work in Republic of Belarus”.

On July 25, 2019 the delegation of Vice-Rectors for scientific work of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the Belarusian State Medical University in order to get acquainted with the experience of the Belarusian State Medical University in the organization and management of scientific research in the educational institution.

First of all the guests from Uzbekistan were offered a short tour around the Belarusian State Medical University, including the Department of Human Anatomy and BSMU Anatomical Museum.

 
 

Then the Vice-Rectors got acquainted with the peculiarities of practice-oriented learning in BSMU by visiting the Center of Practical Training. With the help of modern equipment, simulators, mannequins and phantoms the students master skills to perform basic types of manipulations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intubation, solve clinical situations: respiratory support, hemodynamic correction and infusion therapy, provide medical assistance during vaginal delivery in cephalic and pelvic presentation, master the techniques of application of pneumoperitoneum, insertion of laparoscopic instruments at minimally invasive surgery, perform laparoscopic surgical manipulations on simulators, etc.

The guests also visited the Center for Expertise and Testing in Healthcare where they got acquainted with the organization’s activities to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of medicines, pharmaceutical substances, medical products, medical equipment.

At the end of a tour around the university the delegation was invited to the conference room of the BSMU laboratory building, where the conference was held.

During the conference, university rector Anatol Sikorsky spoke about the history, structure, educational and scientific activities of the Belarusian State Medical University and the features of the educational process. It was noted that the medical university has a highly qualified teaching staff, modern clinical facilities and comfortable living conditions for students. The university attaches the greatest importance to the improvement of the quality of training of medical specialists, provided by the introduction of innovative forms and technologies of education by equipping with technical means used in the learning process, improving curricula and programs, and improving the qualifications of teaching staff.

Vice-Rector for International Relations Vasili Roudenok made a report on the international cooperation of the educational institution “Belarusian State Medical University” and the prospects for the Belarusian-Uzbek bilateral cooperation.

Vasili Roudenok noted that the University trains over 2000 foreign citizens from more than 50 countries of the world. The export of educational services is constantly increasing; for several years the University has been the winner of the State contest “Best Exporter of the Year” in the category “Education”. The University has been repeatedly awarded certificates of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce for its high export performance and received other prestigious international fair and exhibition awards. The Belarusian State Medical University is enlisted into the World Directory of Medical Schools under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). The University is constantly developing effective, mutually advantageous partnership relations with the leading educational, scientific and healthcare institutions of foreign countries. The network of BSMU partners covers more than 100 foreign universities from 29 countries.

Vice-Rector for Scientific work Vladimir Khryshchanovich presented the information concerning the organization of scientific research at the educational institution “Belarusian State Medical University”.

The Belarusian State Medical University has in its disposal both highly qualified academic staff and excellent research facilities encompassing the Scientific Research Unit which is comparable with the entire health care research institute in terms of research volume and scope, material and technical equipment and personnel involvement. The University is premier institution pursuing two state scientific and technical programs that combine fundamental and applied researches carried out by institutions of higher medical education and the Republican scientific and practical centers. More than 150 research works are conducted by university academic staff annually, including more than 70 research works in the framework of budget funding. The results of research work are being implemented in the practical healthcare and are used in the educational process while preparing study guides, academic and methodological complexes and other teaching materials.

The latest achievements in the field of organ and tissue transplantation were presented by the Director of the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center of Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology Oleg Rummo.

The following reports were also presented to the delegation of Vice-Rectors for scientific work of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

1. Innovative technologies in educational process and research at the Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases (Head of the Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases N.P.Mitkovskaya);

2. Infectious diseases in the 21st century. Achievements and scientific prospects (Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases I.A.Karpov);

3. An experimental study of the use of mesenchymal stem cells in the prevention of abdominal adhesions (Associate Professor of the 2nd Department of Surgical Diseases A.V.Zhura);

4. BSMU: information technologies in scientific and practical medicine (Head of the Laboratory of Information and Computer Technologies G.M.Karapetyan).

The presented material was highly appreciated by the Uzbek colleagues because many Belarusian achievements can be applied in practical public health and medical education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the end of the visit the delegation also had a tour around the BSMU sporting venues and university campus including modern student dormitory # 10.

The leadership of the educational establishment "Belarusian State Medical University" expresses gratitude to the delegation of Uzbekistan for the visit and fruitful work. We sincerely hope that the development of academic and scientific cooperation between higher educational institutions will serve for the benefit of the people of Belarus and Uzbekistan.
