The sports competition “BSMU-Milemir-Cricket 2020” took place at the stadium of the Belarusian State Medical University on August 28, 2020. It was organized by the Belarusian State Medical University, the Milemir company and the International Association of University Graduates. Students from India and Sri Lanka, who played in the teams of the Belarusian State Medical University and the Gomel State Medical University, competed for the right to be called the best in the game of cricket.
By the way, cricket dates back as far as 16th century and its native land is the south of England. By the end of the 18th century, the game had become one of the national sports. The expansion of the British Empire promoted the spread of the game around the world. The first matches between national teams were held in the middle 19th century.
The cricket is not so widespread here in Belarus. Nevertheless, the organizers believe that after the inter-university competition many students will become interested in this type of sport.

“The organization of such competitions strengthens the ties of friendship and international cooperation, shows that the country's leading medical university pays great attention to the sports in everyday life of students,” Vasili Roudenok noted at the opening ceremony of the competition. – “I want to welcome all the guests invited to this competition, and especially Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur, who is a frequent guest at our university. Once again we express our sincere gratitude to her for promotion cooperation between the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Medical University and the Republic of India. I hope that this competition will become traditional and will gather even more players and fans”.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Belarusian State Medical University for supporting the Indian initiative to hold cricket competition. She wished the teams a successful game and bright competition.
Dr. Sah Rama Shankar and Alla Mayevskaya also expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants. In their opinion, despite the difficult situation in the world associated with coronavirus infection COVID-19, it became possible to meet old friends and comrades again due to the extensive support of all sides.
The BSMU-Milemir-Cricket 2020 competition was launched by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur and Vice-Rector for International Relations of the Belarusian State Medical University Vasili Roudenok, who made the first strikes on the ball with bats.
The game of cricket turned out to be quite exciting and dynamic.
The energy of the players was transferred to the fans, who actively supported their favorite teams.
As a result, the team of Gomel State Medical University won in fair competition.
During the awarding ceremony, the names of the distinguished players were also announced, which were determined in the nominations 'BEST BOWLLER', 'BEST BATSMAN', 'ALLROUNDER', 'MAN OF THE MATCH'. The panel of judges, markers and game leaders were awarded the appropriate certificates.
Director of Milemir company Dr. Sah Rama Shankar also received gratitude certificate from the administration of the Belarusian State Medical University for assistance in organization of Cricket competition and extensive support of Indian students.
The organizers also express sincere gratitude to all the students who helped to hold this Cricket competition.
As the attendees emphasized, the BSMU-Milemir-Cricket 2020 competition brought them positive emotions and even love to sports and cricket, in particular. After all, sport is not only various achievements and awards, but also, according to the founder of the Olympic Games of our time, Pierre de Coubertin: “Oh sport, you are the world!”.
