The academic teaching staff of the Belarusian and Russian Language Department of BSMU was the co-organizer of VI International Scientific-Methodical online-conference “Methods of teaching foreign languages and Russian as a foreign language: traditions and innovations”, dedicated to the 86th anniversary of Kursk State Medical University. It was co-organized by Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language (Moscow, the Russian Federation) and Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and Sri Lanka (Colombo). This conference was initiated by Kursk State Medical University with which BSMU has been successfully cooperating. The departments where foreign citizens study Russian have implemented a number of successful joint projects.
Vasily P. Gavrilyuk, the acting Vice-Rector for educational activities and general issues at Kursk State Medical University, opened the conference. He noted the importance of such events in terms of new challenges for medical education, the development vector of which is becoming a multi-professional cooperation, globalization, integration of educational process, digital transformation of educational programs, hybrid and distance learning.
Pavel Markautsan, Vice Rector for Educational Work, and Tatiana Melnikova, the Head of the Belarusian and Russian Language Department, addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech. They summarised the results of joint work under the agreement on international cooperation that has been in effect between our educational institutions since 2014.
The conference program was intense and diverse. The following issues were discussed: informatization of language education, theory and practice of creating new educational and teaching manuals on foreign languages and Russian as a foreign language, pros and cons of the distance format of teaching foreign languages, peculiarities of the professiogram of a modern teacher of Russian as a foreign language, prospects of distance education in Russia and in the world, new paradigms in the theory and practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language, aspects of distance learning for students learning Russian as a foreign language, the cultural aspect of linguistic training of foreign students.
The speeches were delivered by professors of universities and colleges, researchers and experts in the field of teaching methodology of foreign languages; state representatives, international and public organizations contributing to the popularization and promotion of the Russian language and culture abroad. Each presentation by experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Minsk, Grodno, Biysk, Smolensk, Kursk, Krasnoyarsk was followed by questions from the audience and discussions on the most topical issues of philology and pedagogy.
Cooperation between scientists, teachers and practitioners always proves to be beneficial. Scientific and methodical conferences, both full-time and part-time, promote the establishment of new scientific contacts, further cooperation and exchange of experience.
