On September 26-28, 2018 IV Eurasian Rheumatology Congress was held in Moscow. The congress was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology, as well as to the 95th anniversary of academician V.A. Nasonova, an outstanding scientist and physician, who pioneered rheumatology in Russia and neighboring countries. The congress was organized by the All-Russian public organization “Association of Rheumatologists of Russia”, V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology, the League of Euro-Asian Rheumatologists, with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
Over 1000 clinicians from all Russian regions, CIS countries (Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia), as well as Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Serbia, Holland, Republic of Korea and others participated in Congress .
The program of the Congress included: scientific sessions, plenary sessions and workshops, a section on continuous postgraduate medical education in the specialty "Rheumatology".
Currently rheumatic diseases account for over 100 nosological forms with the third highest disability rates after CVDs and cancer.
The attendants discussed the latest trends and developments in rheumatology, modern clinical recommendations concerning the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases, new directions of basic research in rheumatology, prospects for the development and improvement of rheumatological service in Russia and the CIS countries. Much attention was paid to the problems of early osteoarthritis, diagnosis and treatment approaches; the problem of chronic pain. Several symposia were devoted to the problem of spondyloarthritis - diagnosis, targeted therapy, its influence on the process of radiological progression.
An important event of the congress was the International Symposium with the participation of scientists and doctors, members of the League of Euro-Asian Rheumatologists (LEAR), Korean College of Rheumatology (KCR), Kazakh College of Rheumatology and Association of Rheumatologists of Russia. Chief rheumatologists of the CIS countries, the presidents of the Associations discussed the prospects for further development of cooperation in the framework of the League of Euro-Asian Rheumatologists. The head of the Belarusian Association of Rheumatologists, Chief Rheumatologist of the Ministry of Health Natalia Martusevich was elected as one of the vice-presidents of the League of Euro-Asian Rheumatologists.
Separate section was dedicated to young scientists. Winner Diploma of the Young Scientists Competition was presented to the 6th Minsk City Clinical Hospital intern Ekaterina Gudkevich with her report on "The effect of comorbid cardiometabolic pathology on the progression of avascular necrosis of femoral head" (scientific supervisor: Natalia Martusevich).
An expo titled ‘Today's Rheumatology’ was set up during the Congress.
