Academic and scientific cooperation between the Belarusian State Medical University

The Belarusian State Medical University and the Hadassah Medical Center signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Reference: Hadassah Medical Center is one of the largest clinics in Israel. Since its foundation the medical center has been used as the clinical base of the Medical Faculty of the University of Jerusalem. In 2005 the clinic was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by foreign parliamentarians and representatives of the academic community in recognition of equal treatment of all patients regardless of their ethnic and religious differences and contribution to the promotion of the peace process in the region. Currently, the Hadassah Medical Center has at its disposal 22 buildings, 130 departments and divisions and 1,100 hospital beds. The medical staff of the medical center comprises 850 doctors. The medical center is constantly expanding, new buildings are built, additional departments and laboratories are opened. In its daily activities the Hadassah Medical Center is guided by the principle formulated by its founders – “to work for the benefit of all nations, without racial or religious differences”.

The two Parties agreed to cooperate in the following areas:

  • Exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty staff, researchers, medical professionals and other research and administrative staff;
  • Promotion of joint research projects;
  • Exchange of academic, scientific, medical information and materials;
  • Organization of joint academic and scientific activities such as conferences, seminars, symposiums;
  • Promotion of joint publications.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the official visit of the delegation of the Hadassah Medical Center from April 30 to May 2, 2018. The delegation of the Hadassah Medical Center was represented by General Director of the Hadassah Medical Center, prof. Zeevjhoshua Rotstein; Deputy General Director of the Hadassah Medical Center, dr. Oren Levy; Director Clinic of Pediatric Oncohematology, dr. Polina Stepensky.

During the visit the delegation of the Hadassah Medical Center headed by prof. Zeevjhoshua Rotstein met with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Valery A. Malashko.

At the meeting with Valery A. Malashko the delegates discussed the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in medical education and healthcare. The Israeli delegation expressed interest in promotion of exchange programs, joint research and conferences on topical issues of medicine. The Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus Valery A. Malashko emphasized the readiness of the Belarusian side to support all the initiatives of the delegation of Hadassah Medical Center in the field of medical education and healthcare.

The main purpose of the Delegation’s visit to the Belarusian State Medical University was to familiarize with the organization of the educational process (quality management system, organization of practical training, use of modern technologies in education, etc.), as well as the organization of research and healthcare work, international cooperation. Both sides also discussed the plan of joint activities for introduction of the International Standard for Medical Education USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) into the educational process of the Belarusian State Medical University. USMLE is applied by the medical faculties of universities in Israel, the United States of America and Canada.

General Director of the Hadassah Medical Center, prof. Zeevjhoshua Rotstein highly appreciated the level of organization of the educational process, the student monitoring system (electronic journal), the professionalism of the academic staff of the Belarusian State Medical University, as well as the ability to combine classical and modern approaches in training of highly qualified medical specialists.
