Nagasaki University (Japan) is one of the main foreign partners of the Belarusian State Medical University. Scientific and academic cooperation between two educational institutions has been fruitfully developing for over 25 years in the following areas:
Within the framework of this cooperation on January 17, 2019, the Belarusian State Medical University was visited by a delegation from the University of Nagasaki (Japan) consisting of Professor at the University of Nagasaki Noboru Takamura, Ph.D. student of the University of Nagasaki Khitomi Hatsunaga, Deputy Head of the Representative Office of the University of Nagasaki in the Republic of Belarus, Jumpei Takahashi and a 4th year student of the University of Nagasaki Entaro Canedo in order to discuss the plan of academic and scientific cooperation for 2019 in the framework of the Agreement on academic and scientific cooperation, as well as give a lecture for faculty members and students on the problem of the radiation effects on human health.
The delegation was received by Vice-Rector for International Relations Vasili V. Rudenok. The meeting was also attended by Dean of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine Andrei V. Hindziuk, Head of the Department of Radiation Medicine and Ecology, Professor Alexander N. Stozharov and Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology Alexey I. Kubarko.
Student exchanges is an important part of the international activities of the Belarusian State Medical University. At present, the Belarusian State Medical University actively supports the student exchange program with the University of Nagasaki (Japan) under the current agreement. This program enhances the prestige of our university among foreign partners, and also contributes to the development of educational activities of the Belarusian State Medical University taking into account global trends.
The parties discussed the program of 4th year University of Nagasaki student practical training at the clinical bases and departments of the Belarusian State Medical University which will take place from 02.02.2019 to 02.02.2019.
During the meeting promising areas of cooperation were also discussed: participation in international symposia, lecturing by university staff on topical health problems for the two countries, and deepening cooperation on the joint writing of scientific articles and publications.
After the official meeting, the lecture of Professor Noboru Takamura on the radiation effects on human health was held in the scientific hall of the library for the faculty of the Department of Radiation Medicine and Ecology, as well as senior students of the medical-preventive faculty.
During the lecture, Professor Noboru Takamura told the audience about the activities of the Nagasaki University in providing scientific support for the restoration of the Kawauchi village affected by the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the return of its inhabitants by assessing radiation effect on human health, measuring radiation in the soil and food, as well as providing medical advice based on the results obtained.
The topic of the lecture aroused great interest among the audience and an active discussion. The lecture material allowed the audience to exchange experiences and get new useful information.
